An altar is a universal tool of consciousness and a tangible reminder of our connection to spirit, essence, and to that which is larger than ourselves. Altars are part of the human experience and expression of longing for meaningful connection. We have interior altars and exterior ones. The exterior ones are the most familiar to us – on our bureaus, our place of worship, in our garden, or the memory stone of someone who has passed. But the interior ones – the inner spaces of sacredness – are very important too. Altars open us to beauty, connect us to nature, and give us an appreciation and understanding of the web of life.
3rd and 4th graders had this to say about what an altar is.
- a sacred space
- a place to be alone
- a place where you put precious things
- a place to think and dream
- a place to go when you are sad
- a place to meditate and pray
- a place to remember pets that have dies
- a place to heal
- a place of magic.
Ritual, altar’s close cousin, comes from our need to celebrate, honor, or mark a moment, season or lifetime.
This online lecture comes from Judy’s personal experience of the sacred, its accessibility and readiness to be invoked. This talk includes the revelations of children still empathically close to the sacred and their innocent teachings to us. Register below.
