Online Course:
Layers of Wisdom within Tibetan Thangka Imagery
Six Tuesdays @ 8 pm est beginning Tuesday April 7, 2015
with Donna Mitchell-Moniak

Tibetan Buddhist imagery can be complex or simple, seemingly garrish or sublime, suggestive or blatant. All responses are intended. In fact, person's response is purposefully invoked in order to instruct and report.
The instruction is in how to live the limitlessness of compassion and thereby transform a troubled world into a harmonious one. To accomplish this, Tibetan imagery instructs the onlooker in how to understand reality more correctly using one’s personal life and one’s mind as the aperture of perceived reality.
Then Tibetan imagery reports what one will find. It presents both the limitations to which one habitually defaults, as well as the limitless options available of awareness and compassion.
Peaceful and wrathful deities now grace the walls of western homes and apartments. Almost 1000 years of contemplation, meditation, and enlightenment lie behind the imagery within any one thangka. Meaning and instruction is offered by every color, line, shape, or painted trinket. Getting to know the fundamentals of Tibetan Buddhist symbolism can offer you some of the meaning and instruction encoded in this art.
Each week will engage particular aspects of Tibetan Buddhist imagery:
Week One: Oneness and Mandala
Week Two: The foundation of Two
Week Three: The three Three’s
